Law of Attraction Gobbledy Gook
Not really sure how to spell "gobbledy gook", but it's the only way I can describe one of the biggest misconceptions about The Law of Attraction.
Let me explain...
Friday is my breakfast splurge day. I eat pretty healthy from Monday through Thursday, but on Friday I get a nice ham, egg and cheese sandwich in a wrap. If I'm feeling devilish, I'll have bacon instead of the ham.
Well today I got the usual and I head to the checkout counter and I see that the woman is reading The Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks.
She sees me put my food down and take out my money.
She has to finish writing something on a cue card (glad to see her taking notes), then place the book down in her little area. It doesn't fit well, so she nudges my plate over, marks her page and turns her attention to me.
After entering the order, taking my money, she counts out my change, coughs on it (don't we all have a cold this time of year) and hands it back to me.
What's wrong with this picture?
a) She's reading a book while on the job?
b) She coughed on my money?
c) She wasn't reading my book The Secrets of Wealth?
It's actually all of the above and one thing more.
Do you know what it is?
I'm guessing she's expecting SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. That's what 99% of the people reading The Law of Attraction, The Secret and Think and Grow Rich.
They want to read a book, think positive thoughts for a weekend and wake up a millionaire.
**** SPOILER ALERT - SPOILER ALERT ****
[ed note: if you'd like to remain part of the dreamer's crowd, head stuck in the clouds waiting for your lottery ticket, rich uncle, can't miss internet opportunity to make you rich, please don't read any further. Fabio, in his silly attempt to tell you the truth, will attempt to set you straight]
I loved watching The SECRET. More because of the way the "author" Rhonda Byrne took dozens of experts, interviewed them and made a movie, then a book out of those interviews.
Brilliant stuff and it made her a millionaire.
Now don't get me wrong, I DO believe in The Law of Attraction and the importance of eliminating NEGATIVE thoughts, but you have to DO SOMETHING in order to get ahead in life.
You have to STOP SPENDING MONEY in order to get out of bad debt.
You have to LOOK AT PROPERTIES to find a great buy that has a positive cash flow.
You have to Buy LOW, do your analysis and monitor your stocks in order to make money in the stock market.
You have to WRITE DAILY if you're going to create that next bestselling book.
The formula is simple:
In order to achieve [insert your goal here] you're going to have to [insert some form of work and effort here] and you have to keep on doing it, adjusting along the way, until you achieve your goal.
There are no shortcuts and CERTAINLY you can't get their without DOING SOMETHING to get there.
So back to lunch lady.
I'm guessing she's sick and tired of her life and her job (why else read a book like LOA, right?)
She probably thinks she should be paid more.
Probably thinks she should find the love of her life.
But is she really DOING the things that will get her WHAT she wants in life and get her to WHERE she wants to be in life?
Had she woken up early or stayed up later at night, reading her Law of Attraction book, got to work early, given 100% of her mind and physical effort, who knows, she might become the manager of the store one day.
Or maybe get a raise or....
You get the point.
You've got to take ACTION and do a little WORK to get anywhere in life. There are no shortcuts in life. Well, maybe if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, but then again, we all can't be Paris Hilton or one of those other annoying heirs/heiresses.
So we've got no choice but to roll up our sleeves and DO SOMETHING about it.
Get to work. Your Financial Freedom is waiting...
Fabio
PS, I'm not knocking The Secret or The Law of Attraction. I own both books, have read them several times and even watched The Secret movie. The point is that you can't just think and grow rich - that was NOT the secret inside of Napoleon Hill's classic book.
If you're interested in learning more about both books, head on over to Amazon.com and take a look at the comments by reviewers and decide yourself if you want to read them:
The Law of Attraction

Having seen The Secret, I thought this was an excellent observation and analogy!

Remember "manifest destiny" from your history books? Destiny is obvious in meaning, but look at manifest. Two root words there: "mano" (hand)and "festum" (feast). Simple! Your destiny is in your hands, to create your feast.
Excellent post, reminding us of the obvious.
I agree with much of what you have said here and certainly agree vehemently about the point that it is important to take ACTION to achieve your goals.
However, if I were employed in a job that was relatively low-skilled and didn't require 100% of my attention I too might be doing something else on the job (within reason of course), especially if things were slow. After all, why not expand my mind rather than just sit twiddling my thumbs?
You made a number of sweeping generalizations - to be provocative no doubt - such as 99% of the people that read books such as The Secret and Think and Grow Rich are expecting something for nothing. I agree that many people are indeed looking for an easy way out but I think that 99% is a bit high. There are many people who have read these and similar books and have used the material to inspire them to create an extraordinary life for both themselves and others.
Next time you're in the store maybe you could give the cashier a copy of your book - The Secrets of Wealth. It's the season for giving is it not? Chances are she doesn't even know of its existence. Maybe you can also challenge her to become a case study to see if she can put the principles expressed in your book into practice to achieve financial freedom.

I agree with you to a certain there is no get rich quick however
This is America the land of opportunity every successful business person I know started with a plan and studied there market for supply and demand before building there business and they always succeeded if you don't study before you take a test you fail
The Law of Attraction is not BS. It works, if you put energy and action into it. My life is a testament to it working. You can visit my web site and read my story, if you like. http://trinaschiller.ws
If people read the information, or watch the movie, The Secret, and really pay attention, they will get it. The people in the movie stress time and again, that one must take action, not just play the wishful thinking game.
Think and Grow Rich says the same thing. You must take action. So, the concept is not BS, it is the way people interpret and use the information. Nowhere in any of the books I've read on the Law of Attraction does it say, sit on your ass and think happy thoughts and you'll get everything your heart desires.
I always have thought that a much better title for Napolen Hill's book would be: "Think, Act and Grow Rich". Even though he stresses the acting part in all of his works (as do all the "gurus" in The Secret), I guess that the [actual] title is misleading to a lot of people: "'Think and Grow Rich'? Oh, yes, thinking I can, ergo I will think and my part will be done..." :-)

Hello Fabio,
Without action, the Law of Attraction is really nothing more than the Law of Wishful Thinking.
Hmmm... I'm off to register a domain name!
Best regards,

The Secret movie is based on the age-old classic "The Science of Getting Rich".
Whilst the movie is excellent and entirely inspiring, they do miss out certain critical points which are pointed out by the original author, Dr Wallace D. Wattles.
The main point of which is "taking action". Dr Wattles did mention this is where most people meet with "shipwreck" in using the law of attraction. Without action - the right action and doing things in a certain way - nothing happens. The book is available as a free download at http://www.simple-financial-planning.com
Hello,
Well, my guess is this. Fabio created a subject line that grabbed your attention and prompted you (and me) to respond.
In his writing, he admits that he "thinks" the cashier wants something for nothing. Is it true? The fact of the matter is, he really is only supposing. Maybe she reads it at work because she is swamped with things to do at home when she finally gets there. At any rate, she is taking a step towards something better by reading the book, is she not?
Of course you have to take action on your good thoughts and dreams. She is starting with learning the "Law of Attraction". Fabio? He is also taking action to make his good thoughts and dreams come true. After all, he has a business, this blog and he got you and I here with his catchy subject line, right?
Have a great day. Think good thoughts. Take appropriate action.
And by the way, you can get, "The Secret" and many other awesome AUDIO books for immediate download at my site, PrintedInAudio.com.
Thanks Fabio.
